Wholesale liquor traders in the state have hiked the rates of restaurants-bars and marriage palaces in many big cities due to the open discount. Liquor prices have gone up by 25 to 30 percent, especially in Ludhiana, with wholesalers issuing their own price lists.

Bars, restaurants, hotels, marriage palace owners have been hit hard by the liquor traders who have voluntarily hiked the prices, hiked by 25 to 30 per cent to the new price fixed by the liquor sellers, while purchasing less goods. Not only that the price per bottle applicable to retail customers will be fixed, but liquor dealers will also have to buy liquor from nearby shops in Ludhiana cities recently. Such excessive rate is being charged by various groups of liquor sellers in Amritsar etc.

A box of 100 Pipers (12 years old), Teachers-50, Bombay Sapphire and other similar brands is now priced at Rs 20,000 as per the rate list prepared for owners of hotels, bars, restaurants and marriage palaces. Instead of Rs 15,600, if the same brand is bought in less than one pack you will have to pay Rs 2,000 instead of Rs 1300, similarly the prices of Shivaj Regal, JW Black Label, Gray Goose and other brands have now been reduced. 30,000 per pack instead of 23,000. .

A hotel owner, on the condition of anonymity, said that since the implementation of the new excise policy in the state, the liquor lobby has been arbitrariness, while state Excise and Taxation Commissioner Varun Ruzam said that liquor vendors cannot do this. Increase the price of liquor to their level, if that happens the matter will be investigated.
