A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar and Bandyal heard the matter of sanctioning the phased resignations of PTI members of the assembly. During the hearing, the CJP advised the PTI to return to the Assembly. He remarked that the people have elected the members of the Vidhan Sabha for five years. “Their main duty is to play a role in Parliament.”

PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhary said that Imran Khan had collected Rs 13.5 billion for the flood victims. “PTI members are helping flood victims in their constituencies.”

The CJP said that the flood victims have neither water to drink nor bread to eat. “People are coming from abroad to help the flood victims. Also see the economic condition of the country. This decision has been taken after a thorough study of the law. The speaker has his own method. How can we intervene? Such an intervention is a very difficult task for the court.”

“The order of the High Court has clearly stated that the approval of phased resignations of the Speaker is legal. It is clear that Article 69 can be affected by interfering with the Speaker’s power. Satisfy the Court as to what is lacking in the order of the High Court. Every organization has its own capacity. There is full arrangement for general elections. The turnout in the by-elections is also going down,” he added.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing indefinitely, giving the PTI another chance to prepare its case against the approval of phased resignations.
