Police are urging the public to be vigilant after recovering a “large quantity” of stolen tires in Glasgow.

A large haul of tires worth around £500,000 is believed to have been swiped from a wholesaler’s yards in the Newmans and Chapelhall areas of Wis. during September.

Following investigations, a number of stolen goods were found in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Police have now said a “significant” amount of the tires are yet to be traced and have appealed for anyone who believes they have seen them for sale under “suspicious circumstances” to come forward.

In particular, members of the public are urged to look out for Lassa, Tomcat, Waterfall, Enchi and Threa brand tyres.

Detective Constable Gary Hattie, from Wishaw CID, said: “This was a significant and valuable series of burglaries.

“It is likely that those responsible will be trying to flip the tires and sell them in various ways to unsuspecting motorists or garages, so we are asking the public to be aware.

“If you have any information that could assist our inquiries, please call police on 101 quoting incident 1357 of 28 September 2022. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, Then you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
